トランスジェンダー学生の受け入れについて
― 志あるすべての女性に学びへの扉を等しく開きます ―
福岡女子大学は、高等教育の門戸が女性に対してほぼ閉ざされていた1923（大正12）年に、日本初の公立女子専門学校として創設されました。以来、性別による教育機会の不平等を是正しつつ、時代や社会の変化に柔軟に対応しながら、次代の社会を牽引する「女性リーダーの育成」を基本理念に掲げてまいりました。
女性たちの声を端緒とした建学から100年を経て、その女性性及び男女性別の概念は大きく変化し、性の多様なあり方が社会に受け入れられつつあります。建学の歴史と大学の基本理念を踏まえて、こうした社会環境の変化を捉えるとき、公立大学として女子高等教育を行う本学が、女性の多様なあり方を包摂する歩みを進め、志あるすべての女性に本学固有の学びへの扉を等しく開いていくことは、一つの使命であると考えます。
それとともに、本学のすべての学生と教職員が、他者及び自分自身の性のあり方を大切にしながら、性の側面に留まらず、人や文化をはじめとする様ざまな多様性（ダイバーシティ）への理解を深め、互いに尊重し合うことができるよう、時宜を得た教育と支援を展開し、多様性を包摂する社会づくりに貢献していかなければなりません。
そこで、2029年度入学生から、多様性を包摂する歩みを更に進めるため、本学の学部及び研究科の出願資格である「女子」に、トランスジェンダー女性※を含むことを決定いたしました。今後、受け入れ開始に向け、トランスジェンダー学生を含む本学の全ての女子学生が共に学ぶための環境を整えてまいります。この過程と新しい環境での学びは、本学が標榜する感性豊かでグローバル?マインドを持つ人材の育成とともに、多様性を包摂する社会の実現に貢献するものと信じます。
※ 身体的性に基づく戸籍上の性別は男性であるが、女性としてのジェンダーアイデンティティを持つ人。

On Accepting Transgender Students:
Opening the Door to Equal Learning Opportunities for All Aspiring Women

Fukuoka Women’s University was founded in 1923 as Japan’s first public women’s college at a time when the doors to higher education were largely closed to women. Since then, the university’s fundamental philosophy has been to nurture female leaders who will guide the next generation, while addressing gender-based inequalities in the provision of educational opportunities and adapting to the evolving needs of society.
One hundred years have passed since this university was founded in response to women’s voices for change. In the meantime, concepts of femininity and gender have drastically changed, and society is now rightfully becoming more accepting of gender diversity. Based on the university’s founding history and basic philosophy, we believe it is our mission as a public women’s university to take steps toward embracing the diverse ways of being female and providing our unique learning environment for all motivated women.
Additionally, we must contribute to creating an inclusive society by offering timely education and support to all students and staff, helping them to deepen their understanding of and respect for diversity in terms of not only gender but also people and culture. This support will also encourage respect for the sexuality of others and oneself, as well as every person’s right to freedom of self-expression. We must contribute to the creation of such a tolerant society.
Therefore, in order to further advance the steps towards diversity and inclusion, Fukuoka Women’s University has decided to include transgender women* in the “female” category of the application qualifications for its undergraduate and graduate schools, starting with students wishing to enter the university in April 2029. In preparation for the start of acceptance, we will create an adequate environment where all female students, including transgender students, can live and study together without difficulty. We believe that this process and learning in this new environment will contribute to realizing a diverse and inclusive society, as well as help in the development of human resources with high sensitivity and a global mindset.
(*A person who identifies as a woman, even though their gender on the family register might be male based on physical sex.)
